Barrier to run Sampson YMCA
CLINTON – The YMCA of Southeast North Carolina is expanding its management team to operate the soon-to-open YMCA of Sampson County.
In December 2021, Jared Barrier accepted the position of Executive Director of the YMCA of Sampson County. Barrier came to the YMCA from Sampson Regional Medical Center with a background in health and wellness leadership. He previously ran the Sampson County Health and Wellness Center when it was operated by the hospital and looks forward to reopening.
“I’m thrilled to be a member of the YMCA team now,” Barrier said. “Our goal is for the community to benefit greatly from having a Y facility and programming available locally. We look forward to reopening the facility and working to meet the needs of the citizens of Sampson County. »
The YMCA is now looking to fill two additional full-time positions, including Director of Aquatic Sports and Director of Membership Wellness and Engagement, to help run the YMCA of Sampson County. Both of these positions will report to the General Manager and serve as leadership positions within the Branch. Essential functions include organizing and implementing programs, hiring and managing staff, maintaining the budget and other assigned duties.
Barrier points out that “these two positions will be an integral part of the operations of the Sampson County Y. This is a great opportunity for candidates to build on their previous experience and grow professionally through program development and oversight, management, and community engagement. Both positions will work closely with management and other Y staff to ensure that we achieve our goals and accomplish the YMCA mission.
The YMCA is the nation’s leading non-profit organization committed to building community. Working locally, the Y focuses on empowering youth, improving health and wellbeing, and inspiring action in communities.
“Working at the Y is meaningful work,” says Meghan Merritt, chief operating officer of the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina. “Our team has the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many people, whether it’s sponsoring young children or connecting people to a program or sport that engages them with others or enhances their overall health.”
“Renovations are currently underway and we are thrilled to announce that we have hired our Executive Director for the YMCA of Sampson County, Jared Barrier,” said Sarah Gibbs, YMCA of Southeast Financial Development and Marketing. North Carolina. “While construction is underway, Jared is working on hiring his team to help open and operate our facility when the time comes.”
