India’s innovation ecosystem is driven by the knowledge economy, market-driven basic research and disruptive technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, Niti member VK Saraswat said on Tuesday. Aayog.
Addressing a virtual event organized by industry body CII, Saraswat said these interventions have brought India to the leading position in innovation.
He also said that India has all the ingredients for innovation and teamwork. Stronger integration of these with the global community will bring the country to the top of the innovation ladder, he added.
Also speaking at the event, Indian Government Senior Science Advisor K VijayRaghavan noted that the digital push in India has been extraordinary.
He pointed out that initiatives, such as Aadhaar, the COVID-19 portal for immunization, have been phenomenal in scope, size and scale, and no other country has such enormous potential.
According to him, some of the important initiatives such as the Cyber-Physics Initiative, the High-Computing Mission, the Artificial Intelligence Mission and the High Seas Mission will help India further transcend the trajectory of innovation.
Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said technology and innovation are among the main engines of a country’s economic growth and development.
Kant pointed out that many of the important innovations during the pandemic were driven by the digitalization of businesses.
India climbed two places and was ranked 46th by the World Intellectual Property Organization in the 2021 Global Innovation Index.
