New Showcase Series ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Debuts Captain America Combat Deep Dive
Firaxis Games and 2K have launched a new series on YouTube featuring character gameplay walkthroughs for their upcoming strategy title, Marvel’s Midnight Suns. This first video spotlights the iconic Captain America, also known as Steve Rogers.
Captain America primarily uses his shield, which is used simultaneously for defensive and offensive purposes. In fact, one of his skills, “The Best Defense”, gives Steve more block stats equal to the damage he deals for two turns. Additionally, it can provoke enemies inciting their aggro. Another of the Captain’s skills, the Brooklyn Handshake, initiates the enemy’s recoil, with the distance increasing depending on whether they have already been hit during that same turn. These notable factors make Captain America a tank-like character who can play several vital roles on the front lines of combat.
Friendships between the player character Hunter and other superheroes nearby can be formed. These relationships can develop to enhance the characters’ combat prowess; in Steve’s case, he will learn passive abilities beneficial for protection. Friendship level 1 is explicitly stated to provide Steve with a set amount of block at the start of battles, and at level 2 he will start gaining block every turn.
A final gameplay mechanic discussed intricately throughout this video is heroism, a character’s most devastating ability that is only usable if enough heroism is accumulated. The name of one of Captain America’s heroic characters is Spang! which deals significantly more damage to enemies that target it. This attack would undoubtedly synergize well with strategies revolving around taunting. Captain America’s strongest and most expensive hero skill from the Midnight Sun cards is Shield Charge. Essentially, this skill converts his entire current block stat into damage dealt through a line of enemies.
