WSD is accepting applications for a high performing program

The Washougal School District is accepting applications for its high-performing program through Monday, October 31.

Nomination forms can be acquired by visiting washougal.k12.wa (digital submission) or by contacting Kathy Sloop at [email protected] or 360-954-3022 (printed copy).

According to a press release, highly capable students “perform or show potential for performance at significantly advanced academic levels relative to others of their age, background, or background.”

“Highly competent students exhibit exceptional abilities in their general intellectual abilities, specific academic abilities, and/or creativity in a specific area,” the press release reads. “These students are present both in the general population and are present in all protected classes.”

The press release indicates that highly able students may possess, but are not limited to, the following learning characteristics: an ability to learn with unusual depth of understanding, to retain what has been learned, and to transfer learning in new situations; an ability and willingness to deal with increasing levels of abstraction and complexity earlier than other peers; a creative ability to make unusual connections between ideas and concepts; an ability to learn quickly in their area(s) of intellectual strength; and a capacity for intense concentration and/or focusing.
